IMPORTANT NEWS FOR MIDEAST CLUBS
Many of you in the region will be racing at IM Louisville at the end of August but you might still want to support your club by racing at the MERCRS Championships in Maysville, KY on August 15. It's understandable that you might not want to enter an international-distance event two weeks before the big race, so the race director at Buffalo Trails has put together a sprint distance triathlon as part of the Championship Event. The sprint-distance triathlon will be scored just like every other event on the MERCRS schedule, so if you've got people that were on the fence because of the distance, now you can tell them they have no excuse to miss the races.
Lots of space available at the race, so please visit the race website and register soon!

UPDATE: Standings through the end of May are up and available for download in the "2009 MERCRS" page and will be updated again at the end of June.
UPDATE: Now that the MERCRS season is officially underway, it would probably be a good idea for you all to know where scores should be submitted. Please email your score sheets to Greg Elsnic at

. For those who are new to the scoring game, scores must be submitted to Greg within 14 days of each race in order to avoid the penalty of being placed behind all clubs who submitted scores on time, regardless of your actual score at that race.
Congratulations to everyone who raced at Pokagon State Park on May 16 and qualified for the Age Group National Championship race in Tuscaloosa, Alabama! If you qualified and are interested in registering for the Championship race, you do not need any special information or website to do so. When you register for the race at www.imathlete.com the registration form will ask you to state how you qualified for the race and which race you qualified at. Aside from that it is similar to registering for a normal race. Good luck!
UPDATE: The 2009 MERCRS score sheet is available for download on the 2009 MERCRS page under the "MERCRS" link at the left. The mileage data sheet for May and June races is now available as well, along with the final schedule of races for the series. The first races of the MERCRS season are this weekend at Galena, Illinois and Fort Custer State Park, Michigan, so get out and enjoy some racing!
NOTE: The Culver's Academy Sprint Triathlon has been cancelled by the Race Director. News on a replacement race will be added to the schedule available for download by Friday. The preliminary choice is the Warsaw Sprint Triathlon on June 27, 2009.
There are currently some 10,000 annual members in the Mid-East Region, and over 50 clubs in the five states. Starting today, you'll get a chance to learn a little about the clubs. First up are Ann Arbor Tri Club out of Michigan and Ohio Northern University Multisport Club.
Ohio Northern University Multisport Club
The ONU Multisport club is a two year-old student organization at Ohio Northern. Our goal is to encourage participation by students and faculty in endurance events through group training, fundraising, and club participation in endurance events. The club has around a dozen dedicated members who train every day in group rides, group runs, and pool sessions. While we have not yet held our own event, the inaugural Multisport Club 5K is scheduled for the May 16, 2009.

Ann Arbor Tri Club

Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Ann Arbor Tri Club aims to promote a healthy, active lifestyle through multi-sport. We offer our 130 members a chance to participate in group workouts, attend races together, and socialize with other like-minded people. Group workouts are offered year-round, especially in the summer months when we hit the pavement and even venture into the frigid Michigan lakes. We actively attend MERCRS events because they give members an opportunity to participate in races they might not otherwise attend, as a member of a great group of people, all while taking part in some friendly competition. Though we have many races that take place in the area, you'll find the most of us at the Ann Arbor Triathlon, either racing or marshalling the bike course. We also put on the Ann Arbor Tri Club Kids' Triathlon in July to benefit the Trails' Edge Camp, a summer camp for children with respiratory disorders.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
The preliminary MERCRS schedule available on the site for download includes Pokagon and Evergreen Lake. Those races are NOT a part of the MERCRS Schedule and were included only as qualifiers for the Age Group National Triathlon Championship in Tuscaloosa, AL. Neither race will be scored on the MERCRS this summer. I apologize for any confusion that you experienced with the schedule.
